PM Confirms that the Salary Increase for Civil Servants Will Start in January 2023

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has confirmed this morning that the salary increase for civil servants and the army will start in January 2023. The Prime Minister's confirmation comes after he publicly announced on Monday, 13 June, that civil servants would be receiving a salary increase, after two years of not receiving raises due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Yesterday, I announced the salary increase for civil servants and the armed forces without clarifying the start time which caused confusion. I would like to confirm that the salary increase will start in January 2023," the Prime Minister wrote, in a post made on his official Facebook page on Tuesday morning, 14 June.

On Monday, 13 June, during the Closing Ceremony of the 2020-2021, and Start of the 2022, Training Courses of the Royal School of Administration, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated, "We failed to increase the salary in 2020 and again in 2021, but now in 2022, we will begin to raise. But the increase is not through a percentage but through a method.”

According to the Prime Minister, doctors and teachers will receive a minimum salary of 1.5 million riel, while other officials will receive a minimum salary of 1.4 million riel. At the same time, he also told the Minister of Economy to raise the tax ceiling, to ensure that those with a salary below 1.5 million riel will not be taxed.
